History of Indigo...

We're excited to offer our new Indigo Series of products. Hand dyed with indigo dye, which used to be one of South Carolina’s major exports, our products are both art and history rolled into one. Indigo a once plentiful crop of the lowcountry is now being grown again. The dye is produced from the plant in growing season. Indigo powder is saved from the process to produce dyed garments year round. The products are works of art and function blended beautifully together. A product that is steeped in SC history, our state flag was fashioned by the indigo grown here. Indigo in South Carolina dates back to the 18th century. It was one of the state’s biggest exports. While historically indigo dye was used for clothing, Our new designs will touch all aspects of the home, from clothing such as scarfs, jewelry, macrame, and shawls to the kitchen, with aprons and tablecloths. We will also be bringing you a new workshop this year featuring the process, the history of indigo, dyeing techniques, and the indigo process. Stay tuned for details on our Indigo dyeing workshops in the future.
